Summer Grammar Survey: Section 1
Morning Class
Class Description
What if there were a way to think about language that revealed how simple, logical, and beautiful it is? Grammar is just that way, and Michael Clay Thompson’s “Magic Lens” book shows us where to start. In this fast-paced eight-session class for middle and high schoolers, students will take a tour through the logic of language to better understand not only its inner workings but its beauty as well. Whether this is their first foray into parts of speech or a reimagined review, everyone will gain an appreciation for the “magic lens” of language through a four-level analysis of grammar: Week One: Parts of Speech Week Two: Parts of Sentence Week Three: Phrases Week Four: Clauses The live, interactive classes will consist of discussion and practice, and homework will be assigned in between classes for further practice and review (corrected by parent). Classes will be recorded for later viewing by enrolled participants, but for full benefit, students should plan to be present in every class. Sections are limited to 12 students so that each will have plenty of opportunity to participate and ask questions.
